Welcome! I wanted to reach out to you with information about attending the United Nations in March for the Commission on the Status of Women in New York (UNCSW64).
I have been working with Jeanne Devine (NY Servas Rep) and Danielle Serres (Servas UN Coordinator) to attend the United Nations Commission for the Status of Women (UNCSW) in New York this March 9-20. As you may know, many Servas members and UN Representatives have attended UN conferences and this has been a very successful in bringing valuable information to communities and sharing these experiences with other Servas Members.
If you would like to attend again, or would like to go for the first time, please let me know. Unfortunately SI does not have funds at this time to help with travel, but you can stay with Servas Hosts in New York and the conference is free. Please submit a paragraph to me explaining who you are and why you would like to attend by Dec 21st and register by Jan 10th if you plan to go.
Warm regards,
Paige LaCombe
Servas International Peace Secretary
Here is the registration information from Jeanne Devine:
Hello Servas members,
Last year 6 Servas members from the US, Australia, Iran, and Rwanda attended the Commission on the Status of Women at the United Nations in New York City. (Read Paige LaCombe’s article in the Spring, 2019 US Servas Newsletter at www.USServas.org.) This year, the Commission will review goals set at the 1995 World Conference on Women in Beijing, China. Attending the meetings is an opportunity to learn about issues and challenges affecting women world-wide, to advocate gender equality, and to network with members of other NGOS and promote Servas as a peace and justice organization.
The Commission is open to all members of NGOs which are affiliated with UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) – that includes Servas International. All Servas members are eligible – up to a maximum of 20. If you are interested in attending, please see the attachment, read the goals of the 1995 Commission and details on registration. There is no charge to attend the UN meetings. There is no financial assistance for transportation or housing; Servas members can go online to find Servas hosts in the NY area.
Paige LaCombe, SI Peace Secretary, will attend again this year and will help coordinate meetings in NY. If you have questions or problems, please contact Paige or me.
In peace and justice and friendship for worldwide women’s equality,
Jeanne Devine
