Hello Servas members,
Last year 6 Servas members from the US, Australia, Iran, and Rwanda attended the Commission on the Status of Women at the United Nations in New York City. (Read Paige LaCombe’s article in the Spring, 2019 US Servas Newsletter at www.USServas.org.) This year, the Commission will review goals set at the 1995 World Conference on Women in Beijing, China. Attending the meetings is an opportunity to learn about issues and challenges affecting women world-wide, to advocate gender equality, and to network with members of other NGOS and promote Servas as a peace and justice organization.
The Commission is open to all members of NGOs which are affiliated with UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) – that includes Servas International. All Servas members are eligible – up to a maximum of 20. If you are interested in attending, please see the attachment, read the goals of the 1995 Commission and details on registration. There is no charge to attend the UN meetings. There is no financial assistance for transportation or housing; Servas members can go online to find Servas hosts in the NY area.
Paige LaCombe, SI Peace Secretary, will attend again this year and will help coordinate meetings in NY. If you have questions or problems, please contact Paige or me.
In peace and justice and friendship for worldwide women’s equality,
